The Shropshire Three Peaks Route begins in the village of Hope, on the main A488 (at SJ 34074 01399), which is opposite part of the Church grounds. From there, you then head over fields into Stiperstones Village, and face a sharp climb up Perkin’s Beach to join The Shropshire Way, turning South West to gain the first summit of the three peaks; which is on Manstone Rock on the Stiperstones (CP1)
Descend down to the main Stiperstones car park and then a welcome descent on quiet and narrow country lane down to Bridges (CP2). If you have time to stop at the pub for food then great, but if not then you begin your ascent over the famous Long Mynd (home to the 4th highest peak in Shropshire, Pole Bank), before descending into Carding Mill Valley, home of the local National Trust centre.(CP3: Refreshments)
You leave Carding Mill and head through the lovely village Church Stretton, famous for it’s tea shops. A sharp ascent to the East side of Ragleth Hill (CP4). You descend on the country lane through the villages of Chelmwick, Ticklerton (CP5) and Eaton before ascending on the Jacob’s Ladder footpath onto Wenlock Edge. When you have gained the summit of the edge, you swing North East and head to the impressive Wilderhope Manor, now an atmospheric YHA property (CP6: Refreshments).
From Wilderhope, you pick up the Shropshire Way again and follow it through Holdgate, before facing a fierce ascent to gain the second summit of the three peaks, and highest hill in Shropshire; Abdon Burf: Brown Clee (CP7)
Stay on The Shropshire Way as you now head due South to Bromdon (CP8: Refreshments) before facing the third and toughest climb up to the third and final peak of Titterstone Clee Hill (CP9). Leave the Shropshire Way briefly, just after the summit and join the road (it’s much easier to navigate), heading down the hill, crossing the main road an using Shropshire Way through Gaynam Hil Fort (CP10), back to Ludlow and the finish at the LudlowRugby Club
